The Spring 2018 production of the Crane Opera Ensemble and Orchestra will be:
THE PIRATES OF PENZANCE by Gilbert & Sullivan
This comic masterpiece will be sung in English and directed by Gilbert & Sullivan specialist David Ward, visiting opera director. It will be conducted by Dr. Kirk Severtson. The choreographer is TBA. Mr. Ward has performed in hundreds of performances of the G&S canon with the New York G&S Players, College Light Opera Company, Anchorage Opera, Indianapolis Opera, Cincinnati Opera, Lake George Opera, Mobile Opera, and Chattanooga Opera. He has directed critically-acclaimed productions of The Gondoliers, Pirates of Penzance, and HMS Pinafore for Opera in the Ozarks and College Light Opera Company (CLOC).
Auditions for the Spring 2018 production will be held Monday and Tuesday, December 11 and 12, from 3:00-6:00 pm in the Snell Theater. Please bring two contrasting pieces in English from opera, operetta, G&S, the Great American Songbook or classical musical theater. A pianist will be provided, though you are welcome to bring your own if you wish. If using the provided pianist, please bring clearly legible music, well-assembled in a binder to facilitate page turns.
You may be asked to read dialogue from the show. Copies are available to review on reserve in the Music Library.
