The Fall 2017 production of the Crane Opera Ensemble and Orchestra will be a double-bill of two comic operas:
The first piece is a comic masterpiece by Puccini and will be sung in Italian; the second piece (in English) was written in 1996 by Michael Ching as a sequel to Schicchi, beginning with the final musical moments of the work and extending the plot through further ingenious twists. The music of Buoso’s Ghost was inspired by that of Puccini but is also at times eclectic and modern. The two works feature the same cast of characters.
Auditions for the Fall 2017 production will be held Tuesday, May 16 beginning at 3pm in Snell. Please bring two contrasting pieces, preferably one in Italian and one in English. One of the works should be an aria. A pianist will be provided, though you are welcome to bring your own if you wish. If using the provided pianist, please bring clearly legible music, well-assembled in a binder to facilitate page turns.
Incoming students (accepted for Fall 2017 admission) are welcome to audition by video submission. Please send links to two video clips to Kirk Severtson at firstname.lastname@example.org by May 16 in order to be considered for a role in the production. Please contact him with any questions or problems.
(Please note: the chosen repertoire is slightly tentative, pending the hiring of an opera director for next year. We expect to announce the casting within a couple weeks of auditions so that cast members can begin to musically prepare their roles over the summer.)
